About The Wine

Founded in 1976 by Tom Jordan, Jordan Winery set out to prove that California could produce Cabernet Sauvignon with the grace and restraint of the great Bordeaux estates.

Nestled on a 1,200-acre estate in Healdsburg, the family-run winery has remained true to that founding vision for nearly five decades — focusing exclusively on Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, crafting each vintage with European sensibility and an obsessive attention to balance.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a textbook expression of that philosophy. Blended from 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec, and aged in French oak, it delivers dark fruit, herbs and cocoa layered over a silky, structured palate with bright natural acidity.

Lower in alcohol than most California peers, this is a wine built for the table — approachable today, but with the backbone to reward cellaring well into the next decade.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Thanks to a lower alcohol level than most Napa Cabs, the silky tannins and bright acidity are fluid and shine with an inherent approachability. Vivid notes of boysenberry, vanilla cedar, and, and sweet soil are amplified with a surge of saline minerality. St. Julien style with that California glow. ~ 96 The Tasting Panel

The nose is slightly restrained and intriguing, with graphite, dried herbs, black cherries, red cherries, anise and stones. The palate is incredibly silky and complete, with rose petals in the finish. A very pretty cabernet that is wonderful now and will reveal more with time. Drink or hold. ~ 94 James Suckling

The nose of this Cabernet leads with aromas of cassis, currant and herb melange, giving way to a palate loaded with rich tannin, juicy raspberry acidity and flavors of cocoa, leather, capsicum and cranberry. Pair with grilled steak, onions and peppers. ~ 92 Wine Enthusiast

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a very old-school wine. Tart red berry fruit, bay leaf, cedar, pencil lead and fine, black-tea-like tannins unfurl in a wine that harks back to a different time. A relatively short stay in barrel of 12-14 months, followed by two years of additional bottle age, yields a wine that feels very ready to drink today, but based on the older wines in this tasting, the 2021 will surely age well. This classy, delicious Cabernet is all charm. ~ 91 Vinous Media
