About the Wine

This is the highest-rated La Fiorita Brunello in recent memory — 95 points from Wine Spectator, 94 from Vinous, and 94 from James Suckling. And it comes from a vintage that critics are calling one of Brunello's finest in a generation.

2021 is being called one of Brunello's finest vintages in a generation. Decanter awarded it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Wine Spectator's Bruce Sanderson called it a year of "unquestionable quality." Low yields meant smaller production and bigger concentration — exactly the kind of vintage that collectors and serious Brunello drinkers wait for.

La Fiorita doesn't release Brunello every year — only when conditions are exceptional. The estate was founded in 1992 in the medieval village of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, deep in Montalcino's southern hills. Its very first vintage — just 1,000 bottles — was purchased entirely by Enoteca Pinchiorri, one of Florence's most celebrated restaurants. In 2011, Natalie Oliveros acquired the property and transformed it: organic certification across all vineyards, a brand-new cellar, and a singular focus on making some of the most expressive Sangiovese in the region.

The 2021 is 100% Sangiovese Grosso from organically farmed estate vineyards. Wine Spectator described it as well-defined and solidly structured with plenty of energy. James Suckling praised its precision and tension. This is a Brunello built for both the dinner table tonight and the cellar for the next 15 years. Production is tiny, and allocation is limited — when it's gone, it's gone.

Tasting Notes

100% Sangiovese Grosso. Aromas of red berries, lavender, and stony minerality lead into a medium-to-full-bodied palate with focused, crunchy tannins. Floral aromas mingle with black pepper and dark fruit, while a generous mouthfeel delivers cherry and red currant freshness. Well-structured with youthful tension, the finish is long, harmonious, and built for aging. Drink now or hold confidently for 10–15+ years.

Critical Reviews

Black cherry and blackberry fruit occupy center stage in this dense, muscular red. Beefy tannins provide support, while vibrant acidity keeps this lively and long on the finish, where iron, tomato leaf and Tuscan scrub add detail. All of the components are there; this just needs time. Best from 2030 through 2048. 2,600 cases made, 1,200 cases imported. ~95 Wine Spectator

Herbal, showing red berries, lavender and stony austerity. Crunchy, linear and medium-bodied, with focused tannins. Wonderful precision and tension throughout. Drink or hold. ~94 James Suckling
