About the Wine
What do Chateau Teyssier, Ch. Talbot, Ch. Smith Haut Lafitte, Clos Fourtet, Domaine Laroche in Chablis, Dom. Saint-Prefert in Chateauneuf, Commanderie de Peyrassol in Provence, Tenuta Argentiera in Bolgheri, and Inglenook in Napa have in common?
All of these leading wineries have turned to Stephane Derenoncourt to make their highly regarded wines even better. Today, BHW is pleased to introduce to you another esteemed estate that has benefited from Derenoncourt’s wine whispering: Les Heritiers de Saint-Genys in Burgundy.
Les Heritiers Saint-Genys winery is located in Chassagne Montrachet where they produce several excellent wines, both rouge et blanc. In 2011, the winery acquired Le Clos Marcilly, a Premier Cru vineyard in Mercurey. Following improvements and some replanting, the vineyard is now a monopole, a unique vineyard with its own appellation (or AOC), that is solely farmed and controlled by Les Heritiers Saint-Genys. This is akin to how Romanee Conti has made famous their own monopoles such as Romanee Conti and La Tache. To own and farm a monopole is a responsibility of the highest order and is considered a privilege. Les Heritiers Saint Genys is dedicated to making a tiny amount of only the best wines the land will offer.
Just to put into perspective, the 2021 vintage of the ICONIC Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet Red is priced at around $150 USD, this wine is a true expression of Burgundy. But here’s the kicker: our 2021 Les Héritiers Saint-Genys Bourgogne Côte-d'Or Pinot Noir is made in the same terroir, yet you can snag it for under $43. That’s right, the same rich, silky texture, vibrant red fruit, and all the finesse you expect from Chassagne-Montrachet, but without the eye-popping price tag. It’s an unreal deal, giving you access to the prestigious Côte-d'Or terroir at a fraction of what you’d pay for a bottle like Ramonet. If you want high-end Burgundy that doesn’t break the bank, this is your golden ticket. But don’t wait—this opportunity won’t last!
Tasting Notes
100% Pinot Noir. The 2021 Les Héritiers Saint-Genys Bourgogne Côte-d'Or Pinot Noir is a refined wine with vibrant red fruit aromas of cherry and raspberry, complemented by earthy undertones. Its silky, medium body offers balanced acidity and fine tannins, with a hint of spice and oak. The finish is elegant, leaving a trace of minerality. Perfect with roasted poultry or soft cheeses, it’s ready to enjoy now but will age beautifully for 5-7 years.
