About The Wine

Barolo is Italy's most celebrated red—the wine Cab Sauv drinkers and serious collectors graduate to.

And the Perarmando is one of the smartest ways to step into the category. This 94-point bottle is built from grapes grown in three of the Barolo zone's most prestigious vineyards: roughly 50% Bussia, 30% Mosconi, and 20% Mariondino. Most producers reserve fruit like this for their top-tier bottlings priced two and three times higher.

The Parusso family has been farming in Monforte d'Alba since 1901. The wine itself is named for Armando Parusso, who began bottling under his own label in 1971; today his children Marco and Tiziana run the estate, keeping the same patient, meticulous style. Grapes are hand-harvested into small baskets, fermented spontaneously with native yeasts (no sulfites added during fermentation), and the wine is aged at least 18 months in small oak barrels in contact with its lees before release.

The 2021 vintage is one of Piedmont's most highly praised in years, and this bottle drinks beautifully: classic Nebbiolo perfume of roses, dried herbs, tar, and dark cherry, with sweet tobacco, lavender, and the firm, fine-grained grip the grape is famous for.

Decant it now to enjoy alongside a steak, ragù, or a board of aged cheese—or lay bottles down with confidence. This is a wine built to evolve through 2030 and well beyond.

100% Nebbiolo, sourced from three top Barolo crus: Bussia (50%), Mosconi (30%), and Mariondino (20%).

The nose unfolds with classic Nebbiolo signatures—roses, dried iris, tar, and crushed herbs—layered over black cherry, prune, and a hint of lavender.

The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with juicy blue and dark fruit framed by precise, polished tannins and bright acidity. The finish is long and direct, carrying clove and exotic spice.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Lots of tar, prunes and a hint of lavender. The palate is medium-bodied with a set of precise, timid tannins, accompanied by juicy blue-fruit flavors that persist throughout the finish. Better from 2028. ~ 94 James Suckling

A faithful expression of the Parusso house style—dried herb, bramble, and dark Nebbiolo skin character framing aromas of rose and dried iris. The bouquet is sharply defined and focused; the palate is powerful and direct, finishing long with hints of clove and exotic spice. ~94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A blend of fruit from the Bussia, Mosconi, and Mariondino MGAs. Aromas of black cherry, blood orange, wild herbs, and dried roses lead a plush palate of warm mixed-berry compote and baking spice. Well-managed tannins make it surprisingly drinkable today. ~93 Wine Spectator

Named for the family patriarch, this harmonious blend from Bussia, Mosconi, and Mariondino weaves dark star anise with fresh fennel fronds. Strawberry preserves and cherry jam bring their lush richness, while candied orange peel adds brightness. The palate dances between herb and fruit, everything concentrated but balanced as these legendary sites sing together. Drink Now - 2045 ~ 92 Wine Enthusiast
