About the Wine

This is a rare opportunity to access Thomas Rivers Brown's meticulous winemaking at Revana Estate—a wine typically reserved exclusively for their wine club members. As one of only a handful of winemakers globally to earn multiple 100-point scores from both Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate, Brown's wines command cult-level followings and waitlists that stretch for years.

We handpicked this Revana Cabernet because it represents something increasingly rare in Napa: a small-production estate wine that delivers world-class quality without the $500+ price tag of Brown's other projects like Schrader Cellars. This is your chance to experience the same winemaking genius at an accessible price point—a wine that earned its place on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list through pure merit, not hype.

At the heart of Revana is Dr. Madaiah Revana, a cardiologist turned winemaker who planted his first vines over two decades ago. Today, he's the only immigrant from India to own three wineries that have all earned spots on Wine Spectator's Top 100 lists—estates spanning Napa Valley, Willamette Valley, and Argentina's Uco Valley. This wine is his love letter to both his adopted home in Napa and his Indian heritage, crafted with the kind of singular focus that only comes from true passion.

Under the guidance of vineyard manager Jim Barbour, a Napa legend, and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, who was named Food & Wine's 2010 Winemaker of the Year, joined by Geoff Davies from Outpost Wines, Revana focuses on just one thing: crafting exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. After Heidi Peterson Barrett's foundational work through 2010, Brown elevated the program to new heights starting in 2011. With only 4,000 cases produced annually, every bottle receives the high-touch attention it deserves, from vine to bottle.

Crafted from their meticuliously managed eight acre property located in the narrowest section of St. Helena, at the north end of Napa Valley. The diversity of terroir—from volcanic Aiken Stoney Clay loam to hillside gravel and sand erosion—creates remarkable complexity in every glass, with each site contributing its own unique character to the final blend.

In the glass, this wine reveals intense layers of blackberry, cassis, and dark cherry that mingle with hints of espresso, cedar, and graphite. The palate is lush and voluminous, with velvety tannins that provide structure without aggression. Notes of vanilla, baking spice, and tobacco emerge on the long, persistent finish. This is a full-bodied Cabernet with refined tannins, rich fruit intensity, and beautifully integrated oak that speaks to Brown's masterful touch.

This wine begs for equally substantial food. Imagine it alongside a perfectly grilled ribeye or New York strip with garlic herb butter, where the wine's tannins cut through the richness of the meat. It's equally magnificent with braised short ribs in red wine reduction, mushroom risotto finished with truffle oil and Parmigiano-Reggiano, or a selection of aged cheddar or Manchego with fig jam.

While this wine is drinking beautifully now, showing both power and elegance in its youth, it has the structure and concentration to cellar gracefully for 10 to 15 years, where it will develop even more complexity with tertiary notes of leather, earth, and dried herbs. If you're opening it tonight, give it 60 to 90 minutes in the decanter to let it fully express itself. This is your special occasion Cabernet—ideal for Valentine's Day dinners, milestone celebrations, holiday gatherings, or impressing serious wine collectors. It's also perfect for fall and winter evenings when you want a wine with the depth and warmth to match heartier cuisine and cooler weather.

Aging: 20 months in French oak barrels. 80% New French Oak, 20% Once Filled French Oak.

Tasting Notes

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This highly-allocated estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon tells the story of our pursuit of purity, elegance, and immense structure. Crafted from our meticulously managed eight-acre property in St. Helena, this wine delivers captivating aromatics of blackberry, cassis, and violet layered with graphite and cedar. The palate is both powerful and graceful—dense dark fruit framed by fine-grained tannins, with espresso and dark chocolate notes on a persistent finish.

Critical Reviews

The 2021 Revana Cabernet Sauvignon comes from their estate vineyard and was stored in 80% new French oak before bottling. Loamy soil and violets mark the nose alongside wild blackberry and shades of dark chocolate shavings with graphite notes. The palate is silky and refined with a serious sense of weight and underlying verve. A total stunner, with serious weight and length, this is a show-stopper that is drinking marvelously right now in its heady youth. Enjoy now and over the next twenty years. ~99 Owen Bargreen

The 2021 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Revana is another gem of a wine, offering up lots of cassis, black currants, black cherries, dark plums aromas as well as shades of tobacco smoke, wet earth, dried thyme, and dried blue flowers. Flawlessly balanced, medium to full-bodied with sweet fine-grained tannins, plush acidity, and a dark fruit and earth-forward finish, it’s already impossible to resist now but give this 2-3 years in the bottle (or a lengthy decant) before enjoying for the optimal experience. 1259 cases produced. Highly recommend and editor’s choice. ~97 Jeremey Young, International Wine Report

Looking at the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Revana Estate Vineyard, which comes from eight blocks in the estate vineyard in St. Helena (a relatively steep slope), it sports a deep purple hue as well as a great nose of ripe blue fruits (cassis, blueberries) supported by scorched earth, graphite, chocolate, and a kiss of background oak. This rich, dense, concentrated, and full-bodied effort needs 4-5 years in the cellar, but it’s clearly a brilliant wine. ~95+ Jeb Dunnuck
