About The Wine

The 2021 Rivetto Lirano Nebbiolo d'Alba is a perfect embodiment of Piedmont’s true essence—elegant, bold, and steeped in tradition. This isn’t just a wine; it’s a reflection of the land, the winemaker, and his unwavering commitment to biodynamic farming. Enrico Rivetto, whose 2006 Barolo was ranked #16 in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the Year, is no stranger to excellence. His Lirano estate, nestled in the heart of Serralunga d'Alba, produces wines that not only honor Piedmont's rich heritage but push it forward.

Rivetto’s story is that of a true farmer. Since taking the reins of the family estate, he has transformed the Lirano hill into one of the most sought-after plots in all of Barolo. Enrico’s vineyard is fully biodynamic, certified by Demeter—making him the first winemaker to receive this certification in Barolo and Barbaresco. His meticulous attention to detail and sustainable farming practices have gained him international acclaim, and it’s clear why. As Robert Parker notes, Rivetto’s wines are “a shining example of how biodynamic farming can elevate the expression of Barolo."

It undergoes extended macerations in terracotta containers. Lirano, the hill where this Nebbiolo thrives, sits at the border of the Barolo production area. This wine is dedicated to the very hill where the Rivetto family lives and cultivates their vines.

100% Nebbiolo. This Nebbiolo d'Alba is a perfect example of Rivetto's craft—a wine with power, finesse, and a character all its own. If you're looking for textbook Nebbiolo purity, this is it. On the nose, expect delicate aromas of rose petals and fresh red fruit, while the palate delivers dark cherry, hints of spice, and a touch of earthy minerality. The tannins are smooth, but the structure remains robust, making this Nebbiolo a pleasure to drink now, with serious aging potential ahead.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

This beautiful Nebbiolo is a perfect meld of high-toned red fruits and savory earth flavors all at once. The wine envelops you with notes of sour cherry, violets, dark earth and thyme. The elegant palate is generous with its raspberry, allspice and oolong tea flavors that give way to persistent minerality on the fine and polished finish. Drink now–2035. ~94 Wine Enthusiast
