About the Wine
"I’ve been tasting Talosa’s 2021 Nobile di Montepulciano Pieve Le Grazie from barrel over the past few years, and my excitement has grown with each taste. On this visit, I finally had the chance to evaluate it from bottle, and I must say that it is everything I had hoped it would be." ~Vinous Media
The Pievi del Nobile project, launched in 2020, is reshaping Vino Nobile di Montepulciano by identifying twelve historic micro-zones—called Pievi—that highlight the best terroirs for growing Sangiovese. These areas, with unique soils and climates, bring out the grape’s true expression. Talosa was a pioneer in the project, investing in the Pieve Le Grazie area, an organic vineyard that produces wines of exceptional quality. This project not only showcases the history of Montepulciano but also ensures its future by promoting sustainable farming practices and elevating the quality of Vino Nobile wines.
“Talosa’s Pieve was the best wine I tasted at Vinitaly this year. A truly exceptional wine. If you think you know Vino Nobile, think again—this one redefines what the pinnacle of Sangiovese in Montepulciano is all about.” ~ Greg Martellotto, Italian Wine Ambassador
Talosa’s Vigna Chiusino isn’t just another release—it’s the result of a single vineyard planted in 1969, making it a true single-vineyard wine. With only 2,480 bottles produced, each individually numbered, this is an incredibly limited wine.
The team at Talosa took a bold step by not releasing this wine until the official launch of the Pieve project, and the initial response has been overwhelmingly positive. La Pieve has already been well received by restaurateurs in Montepulciano, and the team is now expanding its reach to Arezzo, with plans to move on to Siena.
Talosa’s story began over 50 years ago when Angelo Jacorossi acquired this stunning historical estate. And when we say stunning, we really mean it. The Jacorossi family immediately set their sights on producing top-quality wines, transforming this estate into a benchmark for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Today, the winery is still managed by the third generation of the Jacorossi family.
The estate spans more than 80 acres of vineyards, nestled in the beautiful Pietrose Cru—one of the most renowned Crus in Montepulciano. Located at an altitude of 350–400 meters, the vineyards face southwest, benefiting from perfect terroir conditions. The medium-textured soils, rich in Pliocene origin, Tuff, and clayey sands, combined with the expertise of winemakers Christian and Luigi, result in wines that are unique, powerful, and unforgettable.
The estate itself is simply breathtaking—like stepping onto the set of a medieval movie. Talosa’s historic cellar dates back to the 16th century and is built underground between Tarugi Palace and Sinatti Palace, two of Montepulciano’s oldest buildings. Visiting this place is like taking a step back in time.
Tasting Notes
100% Sangiovese. This is a stunning expression of Sangiovese from a single-vineyard site. On the nose, it offers a captivating bouquet of dark cherries, dried herbs, and subtle floral notes, with hints of balsamic spice and leather adding depth. The palate is rich and powerful, yet beautifully balanced, with velvety tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavors of blackberries, dark chocolate, and a touch of tobacco lead to a long, spicy finish. The wine’s complexity and elegant structure make it a standout, showcasing the true character of Montepulciano's terroir. This is a wine that will continue to evolve beautifully with age.

Critical Reviews
The 2021 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Pieve Le Grazie lifts from the glass with a mentholated freshness as balsamic spice aromas mix with mint, shavings of cedar and dried black cherries. This is seamlessly silky and serene with cool-toned acidity and polished red berry fruit notes, further enhanced by bitter dark chocolate and clove tinges. The 2021 expertly maintains its balance as it finishes spicy and long, leaving hints of licorice and a blackberry concentration, all framed by sweet tannins. Already showing beautifully today. ~95 Vinous Media
