About the Wine
The Barbanne stream is more than just a natural boundary—it’s a marker of prestige. On one side, you have Pomerol, home to some of Bordeaux’s most revered wines. On the other, Lalande-de-Pomerol, a region shaped by the same hands, same dedication, and increasingly, the same ambition.
It’s here that Château La Fleur de Boüard has redefined what this appellation is capable of. Owned by the de Boüard family—known for their legendary work at Château Angélus in Saint-Émilion—this estate carries with it a pedigree that few can match. When Hubert de Boüard acquired the property in 1998, he saw not just land but potential. He introduced cutting-edge techniques, restructured the vineyards, and built one of the most advanced wineries on Bordeaux’s Right Bank.
Today, his daughter, Coralie de Boüard, carries the torch. Her approach blends innovation with deep respect for the terroir, creating wines that rival their neighbors across the stream. With vineyards rooted in gravel and clay, Château La Fleur de Boüard crafts Merlot-dominant wines that offer the depth, structure, and elegance of a great Pomerol—at a fraction of the price.
2022 was an outstanding year for the Right Bank. Wine Spectator blessed this year with a 97 point review, and said: "Merlot excelled; Cabernet Franc also relished the season. Wines are very aromatic and expressive, with Pomerol hedonistic and St.-Emilion well-defined. More consistent than the Left Bank."
Tasting Notes
80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep black-purple color with rich, dark fruit aromas. Juicy black cherry and elderberry lead to a layered palate with sweet and bitter licorice. Silky tannins and mouthwatering freshness carry through a long, structured finish.
Critical Reviews
~94 Falstaff
Deep inky plum colour, intense and concentrated with black cherry and cherry pit, touch of bitterness on the finish. Well judged, enjoyable. Now majority owned by the Liquard family, with Hubert de Boüard still minority owner and running the estate along with director Emmanuel Teillet. 50% new oak, bottled unfiltered and unfined. ~93 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux
