About The Wine

If you love Cabernet Franc, this wine will make you want to sing arias from the rooftops!

Chateau Petit Gravet sits like royalty on Bordeaux's legendary "Right Bank," rubbing shoulders with the iconic Chateau Canon and La Gaffeliere. This is premium real estate with breathtaking terroir - deep, rich sand and clay soils that cradle 6.1 acres of pure liquid gold planted with an explosive 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot blend. Get this: one of the highest Cab Franc concentrations in ALL of Bordeaux lives right here in this spectacular chateau!

These aren't just any vines - we're talking ancient, gnarly beauties up to 70 years old that have been perfecting their craft for generations!

Meet the mastermind behind the magic: Catherine Papon-Nouvelle, the brilliant owner and winemaker who doesn't just run Chateau Petit Gravet - she's also the powerhouse behind Clos St. Julien and Chateau Gaillard in St. Emilion. Triple threat? More like triple excellence!

100% certified organic perfection - zero pesticides, zero herbicides, zero chemicals. Just pure, unadulterated grape genius.

The 2022 vintage? Wine Spectator went absolutely wild with 97 points, declaring these wines "very aromatic and expressive... A beautiful vintage." When the pros are this excited, you know you're holding something extraordinary!

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Flowers, mint, charcoal, chalk, sea salt, and red fruits combine to offer an intense, spicy, fruit-packed experience with layers of energetic berries that are as elegant, as they are long, sweet, vibrant, and pure. Produced from 90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot, this is one of the heaviest concentrations of Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux. Drink from 2027-2050. ~96 Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider

A blend of 90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot, the 2022 Chateau Petit Gravet Aîné exhibits a ruby/plum hue as well as terrific aromatics of red, blue, and black fruits interwoven with lots of gamey, floral, and tobacco nuances. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Saint-Emilion that has ripe tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. It shines even today yet is going to evolve gracefully over the coming two decades or so. ~95 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2022 Petit Gravet Aîné is a gorgeous, exotic wine. Kirsch, dried flowers, mocha and new leather open. Ripe, fleshy and layered, the 2022 is definitely on the riper side. Creamy and opulent in texture, it clearly needs time to settle down post-bottling. Today, I admire its balance. This is a wild wine that is sure to take readers on quite a ride over the coming two decades or so, maybe more. ~94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

The rather introverted nose introduces aromas of cassis, wet stones and spearmint, with a hint of roasted spice. Juicy and soft-grained on the medium-bodied palate with a tight finish. Drink from 2026. ~91 James Suckling
