About the Wine
Meet one of our bestselling St. Emilion Grand Cru - and for good reason. The quality and value ratio here is unbeatable.
Château Teyssier rests in one of the most privileged terroirs of Bordeaux and, without a doubt, one of the most acclaimed wine regions in the entire world. This Château is right in the heart of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru and just over 3 miles from the famous Saint-Emilion's First Classified Château Angelus, a wine that can be found at more than $300/bottle (depending on the vintage).
Nonetheless, Château Teyssier is much more than a privileged terroir. This estate is one of the oldest and most prosperous Châteaux in the area, dating back to the 18th century; in fact, in the 19th century, it was the largest wine producer on the Right Bank.
Jonathan Maltus, a.k.a “the cult winemaker,” is the owner and mastermind behind Château Teyssier. Jonathan is a Rockstar in the wine industry, who also produces high-end, award-winning wines, such as Chateau Le Dome (comparable to $200/btl), Le Carre, Les Asteries, and Vieux Chateau Mazerat in Bordeaux, as well as World's End in Napa Valley. But geniuses don't work alone; Jonathan has as his right-hand man and wine consultant, none other than Gilles Pauquet, Château Cheval Blanc's former winemaker.
Everything in Château Teyssier screams greatness. The vineyard is made up of more than 120 acres, which are mostly planted with the queen grapes of the Right Bank, Merlot, and Cab Franc. Since 2000, the vinification area and cellar have undergone renovation and modernization, utilizing state-of-the-art technology and adhering to the highest quality standards.
Tasting notes
80% Merlot & 20% Cabernet Franc
Dark cherry robe, magenta rim. Ripe black berry fruit; brambles, raspberries, spicy oak, toasted almonds, vanilla, and a hint of aniseed. Round, rich, full-bodied with crunchy fruit, plump tannins, and a textured, refreshing finish.
Critical Reviews
Sweet plums and berries on the fruity yet opulent nose. A touch of vanilla as well. Round and medium-bodied on the palate, this has juicy, ripe fruit and an expressive, flavorful finish. Abundant, dusty tannins intertwine with the berries at the end. ~ 92 James Suckling
~92 Alexandre MA
A youthful and concentrated red hue. The bouquet is expressive, offering bright red fruits lifted by a subtle yet well-judged touch of oak. The palate opens gracefully, supported by fine, integrated tannins and flavors of notable precision. A refined and harmonious wine, marking this vintage as a clear success. ~ 91 Gilbert & Gaillard
It is easy to be charmed here with little effort. The wine is soft, juicy, and sweet, with a medium-bodied core of red fruits that shine in the finish. You can enjoy this with pleasure upon release. ~ 90 The Wine Cellar
