About the Offer
Founded in 1868, Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of Burgundy’s most historically significant estates, distinguished by its rare collection of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Today, the domaine is stewarded by the Labruyère family, with winemaking led by Nadine Gublin, one of Burgundy’s most respected enologists, whose precise, site-driven approach has helped elevate the estate to the highest tier of modern Burgundy while remaining deeply rooted in tradition.
Within Puligny-Montrachet, Les Combettes Premier Cru is among the appellation’s most coveted vineyards, positioned on a gentle southeast-facing slope overlooking the village. This site is prized for its ability to deliver Chardonnays of tension, purity, and savory depth, aligning seamlessly with the domaine’s long-held philosophy of restraint and patience in both vineyard and cellar.
The 2022 vintage stands as the warmest year recorded since the early twentieth century, a season that tested the vines and ultimately revealed their resilience. Early water stress and sustained warmth accelerated the growing cycle, with flowering completed by late May and veraison finishing by mid-August. Well-timed June rains and modest late-summer rainfall allowed the grapes to reach full maturity without compromising freshness. Harvest began on August 29th, capturing fruit at a moment of balance between ripeness and energy.
Les Combettes’ clay-limestone soils, marked by a high presence of pebbles, play a defining role in the wine’s character, promoting excellent drainage and even ripening. Grapes are hand-harvested into small crates, then gently whole-cluster pressed.
After settling, fermentation and aging take place entirely in oak barrels, followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 20 months, a signature of Jacques Prieur’s cellar approach, allowing texture and complexity to develop slowly while preserving site expression.
As Vinous notes, the 2022 vintage is Burgundy’s latest trick — a treasure trove of bright, fresh wines in a season that seemed destined to deliver the opposite.
2022 Les Combettes Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru shows a luminous gold-green hue with silvery highlights. The nose is delicate and restrained, offering subtle white floral notes. On the palate, the wine is refined and energetic, driven by purity and precision, with a long, savory finish that reflects both the vineyard’s pedigree and the domaine’s disciplined hand.
