About The Wine

Founded in 1868, Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of Burgundy’s most historically significant estates, distinguished by its rare collection of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Today, the domaine is stewarded by the Labruyère family, with winemaking led by Nadine Gublin, one of Burgundy’s most respected enologists, whose precise, site-driven approach has helped elevate the estate to the highest tier of modern Burgundy while remaining deeply rooted in tradition.

There is no more storied name in white wine than Montrachet. A single, narrow strip of Grand Cru land straddling Chassagne and Puligny, it has commanded the attention of collectors, sommeliers, and wine lovers for centuries — not because of marketing, but because of what the vineyard itself produces: whites of unmatched depth, tension, and length that age for decades and improve with every year in the cellar.

The 2022 vintage stands as the warmest year recorded since the early twentieth century, a season that tested the vines and ultimately revealed their resilience. Early water stress and sustained warmth accelerated the growing cycle, with flowering completed by late May and veraison finishing by mid-August. Well-timed June rains and modest late-summer rainfall allowed the grapes to reach full maturity without compromising freshness. Harvest began on August 29th, capturing fruit at a moment of balance between ripeness and energy.

After settling, fermentation and aging take place entirely in oak barrels, followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 20 months, a signature of Jacques Prieur’s cellar approach, allowing texture and complexity to develop slowly while preserving site expression.

As Vinous notes, the 2022 vintage is Burgundy’s latest trick — a treasure trove of bright, fresh wines in a season that seemed destined to deliver the opposite.

Brilliant pale gold in the glass with faint green highlights at the rim. The nose is at once generous and precise — white peach, lemon curd, and toasted hazelnut layered over a core of wet stone and crushed chalk.

There is an effortless quality to the aromatics, neither heavy nor austere, with the oak fully integrated into the fruit rather than competing with it.

On the palate, the wine is broad and creamy in texture but held in check by the vineyard's signature mineral tension. Flavors of ripe pear, golden apple, and roasted almond flow through a long, saline mid-palate that builds rather than fades.

The finish stretches on with citrus oil and a flinty, almost electric quality that is unmistakably Montrachet. Full malolactic fermentation contributes to the wine's roundness without sacrificing the precision that distinguishes this site.
