About The Wine

Kokomo Winery sits on Dry Creek Road in Healdsburg, and has been quietly producing some of Sonoma County's most terroir-honest wines since 2004.

Founded by Erik Miller — who named the winery after his hometown in Indiana — Kokomo started with just 500 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Today it's a small-but-serious portfolio built around a deep partnership with grower Randy Peters, whose 100-acre Ruth's Vineyard in Alexander Valley is the backbone of this wine.

This Cabernet Sauvignon is a Sonoma County blend drawing primarily from Alexander Valley fruit — where warm days and cool nights build ripe structure — with a portion coming from Kokomo's estate vines in Dry Creek Valley.

The goal, in winemaker Erik Miller's own words, is a wine that is "powerful yet graceful, food-friendly yet great on its own, and most importantly, balanced." At this price, it's a rare combination of artisan intent and everyday drinkability.

Blackberry, blueberry, and plum lead the nose with rich, dark fruit intensity.

The palate shifts spicier, adding pencil shavings, black pepper, cinnamon, and anise — layered over black fruit flavors with hints of cassis, clove, and dusty earth.

Tannins are firm and well-integrated, with a silky character that carries through to a balanced finish with bright acidity.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Blackberry, blueberry and plum aromas burst from the glass of this Cab, while the palate brings spicier flavors of pencil shavings, black pepper, cinnamon and anise. This is delicious and hearty stuff, with plenty of tannin and balanced acid for aging.~ 92 Wine Enthusiast

An appealing but very ripe and full-bodied red that balances good acidity and super-rich fruit flavors. Bright raspberries, dark cherries, a warm touch of alcohol and a smooth, chocolaty finish. Drink now. ~ 91 James Suckling
