About The Wine

Olivier Leflaive’s 2022 Epenots Pommard Premier Cru is a bold and structured expression of Burgundy’s renowned Pinot Noir. Sourced from the historic Les Grands Epenots vineyard, this wine is deeply rooted in the rich terroir of Pommard, a village known for producing some of the most powerful reds in the Côte de Beaune.

The Côte de Beaune, the southern half of Burgundy’s famous Côte d'Or, is known for its diverse terroirs and world-class wines. While the region is celebrated for its exceptional white wines, villages like Pommard stand out for their robust and age-worthy Pinot Noirs. The limestone-rich soils and ideal sun exposure create wines with both structure and elegance, making Pommard one of the most sought-after appellations for Burgundy reds.

The 2022 vintage was one for the books—warm, sun-drenched days helped the grapes reach perfect ripeness while maintaining their signature freshness. Thanks to a sustainable approach to viticulture, Olivier Leflaive and his team crafted a wine that honors the land and captures the essence of the year’s exceptional growing season.

Olivier Leflaive is a legend in Burgundy, and his family’s winemaking roots run deep. His philosophy? Respect the terroir, embrace tradition, and craft wines that tell a story. The House, founded in 1984, has become synonymous with elegance and precision, working with some of the most coveted vineyards in the region.

For this Premier Cru Pommard, 100% Pinot Noir grapes were harvested by hand and carefully destemmed. Fermented in open vats for 18 days, the wine then aged to develop its structure and complexity.

2022 is looking to be a great year in Burgundy. Decanter said, "Despite the (very) hot and dry season, 2022 wasn’t a typical année solaire, according to the verdicts of Burgundy’s winemakers, with quality and quantity to be found, many early-drinking options, but reds to lay down, too. Overall quality is very high for red wines. There is more concentration in 2022… even if you try to make wine for the future, they are showing quite well right now." Demand for Burgundy is soaring. Demand for exemplary Burgundy at prices like this is even more so. Don't miss this great value Pinot Noir!

Aging: in 100% French oak barrels (25% new oak) for 16 months, with 4 months in stainless steel tanks.

100% Pinot Noir. Deep ruby in the glass, this Pommard bursts with black cherry, raspberry, and earthy spice. Subtle notes of undergrowth and toasted oak add complexity. On the palate, it’s rich and full-bodied, with firm yet silky tannins and a long, balanced finish.
