About the Wine
This is a WOW! Wine. If you’re curious about DRY Riesling from an icon producer, at a special discount, here it is.
The Prüm family’s roots in the Mosel region of Germany date back as far as 1156, making it one of the world's preeminent winemaking dynasties. Their incredible Riesling portfolio reflects traditional winemaking practices with exceptional single vineyard-designated wines in every style.
The southwest-facing vineyard is 426 to 853 feet above sea level with approximately 50 to 60 percent steepness. The total Graacher Dompropst vineyard is 47 acres, with S. A. Prüm Holdings at 2.5 acres. This vineyard is designated as Grosses Gewächs (Great Growth) by the Verband Deutscher Qualitäts- und Prädikastsweinguter (VDP) — the association of German Quality and Prädikat Wine Estates.
Tesch Karthauser Riesling Trocken 2022 is a single-vineyard, dry German Riesling from the Laubenheim region in the Nahe Valley. Sourced from the historic Karthauser site, this wine offers crisp acidity, stony minerality, and vibrant citrus fruit—all hallmarks of terroir-focused winemaking. Crafted by Weingut Tesch, one of Germany’s leading producers of dry Rieslings, this is a bright, food-friendly wine with incredible purity and precision.
Tasting Notes
100% Riesling. Medium lemon in color. On the nose, highly aromatic with peach, orange, lemon, papaya, pineapple, and mineral notes. A dry style (trocken), the palate nuances a vibrant and racy tone with a layer of tropical, stone, and citrus fruit perfectly balanced and precise. Can be enjoyed on its own or with a range of appetizers, salads, white meats, seafood dishes, spicy cuisine, or cheeses.
Critical Reviews
The 2022 Riesling Karthauser is from a sheltered, southwest-facing site of weathered sandstone. A beautiful spice of crushed herbs on warm stone plays on the nose, coming with a hint of fresh apple peel. The palate has a lightness and a tenderness that carries these flavors with subtlety and translucency. Bright and slender, its stony intensity becomes apparent on the finish, ringing long. ~93 Vinous Media
