Tucked beside the Ōpaoa River in the heart of Marlborough, Black Cottage is where founder Dave Clouston and winemaker Sanna Stander blend laid-back Kiwi lifestyle with serious winemaking talent. As a proud, family-run estate, sustainability isn’t a buzzword—it’s the backbone. The team is committed to nurturing Marlborough’s vineyard landscape by boosting biodiversity, restoring native habitats, and improving soil health through the Sustainable Winegrowers New Zealand program. In 2020 alone, they planted more than 500 native plants along the Ōpaoa River, with thousands more on the way through their long-term riparian restoration project. Lighter-weight bottles reduce their carbon footprint, and most wines have been vegan-friendly since 2020.

This Sauvignon Blanc has a pale straw colour and a complex aroma of Feijoa, elderflower, guava, currant, and wet stone.

The palate is juicy with lime zest, while the mouthfeel is elegant, refined and focused.

Best savored with friends on a sunny afternoon with a charcoal grilled piece of fish topped with herbaceous chimichurri sauce.

What the Critics Said

Bright, even, pale yellow. The nose is fresh, with clean aromas of gooseberry, pineapple, elderflower and hints of capsicum. Medium-light bodied, aromas of gooseberry and pineapple melded with a lime zest, elderflower and subtle green capsicum. The wine is cleansing and pure with soft, juicy acidity. Lime zest and elderflower fragrance lift the wine, unfolding a hint of saline and a refreshing closing. Match with peeled prawns and steamed clams over the next 2-3 years. Distinctive aroma sand flavours of fresh red apple and angelica leaf, a mix of white pear and tropical fruit led by cape gooseberry then a touch of passion fruit. Crisp and dry with core fruit ripeness filling out the palate and enhanced by the acid line. Salivating with a touch of salinity leads to a balanced, even finish.
