For more than 25 years, Jayson Woodbridge has built a reputation as one of Napa Valley’s most uncompromising winemakers, earning over 61 perfect 100-point scores for his Bordeaux-driven wines under the Hundred Acre label. Precision, intensity, and an obsessive focus on site have always defined his work.

Over the last decade, that obsession led him west. Drawn to the raw beauty, extreme conditions, and singular soils of the West Sonoma Coast, Jayson began quietly sourcing fruit and experimenting outside of Napa, determined to explore what Pinot Noir could become in a radically different environment. Rather than extending Hundred Acre, he chose to create an entirely new project, Summer Dreams, giving the wines their own identity and the freedom to evolve independently, focused purely on site expression, restraint, and nuance.

Each Summer Dreams Pinot Noir is a barrel-selection blend, built slowly as Jayson tastes through individual lots, shaping a wine that reflects a specific moment on the California coast. That philosophy comes into sharp focus with the 2023 Summer Dreams “Twilight” Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, a wine designed to capture the darker, more introspective side of the region. Twilight reflects the tension between coastal freshness and depth, channeling the cool Pacific influence, hillside structure, and layered complexity that define the Sonoma Coast at its most compelling.

Some of these vineyards sit on Goldridge soils layered over an ancient seabed, where fossilized remnants are not uncommon. This rare, fine-grained sandy loam offers excellent drainage while retaining just enough moisture through the growing season. Combined with steep hillside slopes, elevations ranging from 900 to 1,900 feet, and a coastal climate marked by warm, dry summers and cool, damp winters, these sites deliver natural intensity, freshness, and dimension.

As Jonathan Cristaldi of Decanter puts it, this style is “Like the Darth Vader of Pinot—dark, intense, yet undeniably good.”

In the cellar, the approach mirrors the precision of the vineyards. Whole berries, 100% destemmed, are fermented in a mix of new and used French oak puncheons and open-top tanks, allowing texture and structure to build without excess. Aging follows in 100% new French oak, with 20% in puncheons, preserving depth while maintaining balance and clarity.
