About the Wine
Emmerich Knoll (pronounced with a hard “K”) represents three generations of family winemaking rooted in the village of Unterloiben in Austria’s famed Wachau region—an estate shaped alongside the family’s historic 400-year-old Loibnerhof Familie Knoll restaurant in nearby Dürnstein.
Today, Weingut Emmerich Knoll farms 15 hectares of steep, terraced vineyards carved into the Wachau’s dramatic landscape, where Grüner Veltliner and Riesling thrive in thin soils, intense exposures, and meticulously tended parcels. Their cuvées are celebrated for purity, precision, and age-worthy structure—hallmarks of the Knoll family legacy.
As a proud member of “Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus”—an elite association of Wachau winemakers following strict quality standards—Knoll Winery consistently produces wines that earn top spots on Michelin restaurants, including the legendary 3-star Michelin restaurant, The French Laundry.
Considered one of the great names of Austrian wine, Knoll’s Riesling Federspiel remains lifted, vibrant, and remarkably detailed. 2023 was a standout vintage for Austria, delivering wines with ripe, precise fruit and beautiful freshness—qualities that shine in this release from one of the country’s most respected estates.
Sourced from the iconic Loibenberg vineyard, where warm Pannonian influences meet southern exposure and mineral-rich soils, this Riesling shows clarity, energy, and a structure built for longevity. The acidity is harmonious and well-integrated, supporting the wine’s brightness and giving it a long, graceful finish.
Tasting Notes
100% Riesling.
A pretty, crisp and delicate Riesling with delicious spiced stone and citrus fruit on the nose. The palate shows apricot, limes, a delicately floral twist, and driving minerality.
Critical Reviews
Welcome to this introduction to the beauty of the Riesling’s peachy aromas. A very elegant dry wine, the aromas of which slowly expand as it aerates, adding orange blossoms and mandarin oranges plus a touch of ripe melon. A long, stony finish that has spot-on balance. Drink or hold. ~ 94 James Suckling
Pale chartreuse yellow with silver hues. Subtle stone fruit nuances, a hint of white apple, notes of yellow fruit, a mineral touch. Juicy, elegant, white peach, a fresh acidity, with a salty touch on the finish, mineral and persistent, good ageing potential. ~ 92 Falstaff
