About the Wine
Close your eyes...
Picture the sun dipping behind the Rovereto hills, where the Mediterranean breeze meets the sharp chill of the Piedmont mountains.
Picollo Ernesto is a 16-hectare masterclass in a single grape: Cortese. The story began in 1945 when Lorenzo Picollo founded the estate in the prestigious Rovereto commune. The winery later passed to his son, Ernesto, and is now steered by his grandson, Gianlorenzo.
For over 80 years, the "Picollo boys" have been on a relentless mission to perfect Gavi. They’ve traded old-school high yields for modern "green harvesting" to intensify flavor, brought the winery into the future with top-tier tech, and shifted the entire estate to organic viticulture.
This 2024 Gavi is a high-definition snapshot of Rovereto’s rolling hills. Thanks to a climate that’s more Mediterranean than the rest of Piedmont, the grapes soak up enough sun to develop a fleshy, stone-fruit texture that feels remarkably "mighty" for a white wine.
It leads with white peach and freshly cut flowers, but the real star is the finish—a crisp, stony minerality that begs for a second sip. Whether you’re pairing it with a light meal or just "casual sipping," it is a brilliant, polished tribute to three generations of family passion.

What the Critics Said
THE PRODUCER
Picollo Ernesto
Picollo Ernesto is perched among the rolling hills that surround the town of Gavi. The climate there is much more mediterranean than in the north, benefiting from the constant maritime breezes, unique to the southern Piedmont.
Picollo Ernesto’s vineyards sit near 260 meters above sea level in Rovereto di Gavi, one of the most prestigious area of the appellation. Their 16 hectares of vineyards are planted exclusively with Cortese, a hearty, high acid white varietal, perfectly suited for this area in northern Italy.
