About The Wine

Since 1920, Dignitat has made Cava in Penedes, just outside Barcelona — the heart of Spain's sparkling-wine country. Fifth-generation winemaker Alex Ruiz-Masachs runs the estate today, overseeing every step from their own vineyards to the finished bottle. That kind of vertical control is rare at this price.

This Brut Seleccio is the textbook Cava blend: equal parts Xarel·lo, Macabeo, and Parellada, hand-picked and softly pressed, with only the free-run juice making the cut. Each variety ferments separately in stainless steel before the blend goes into bottle for a minimum ten months on the lees — the traditional method that built Champagne's reputation, applied here with Catalan discipline.

The wine shows yellow-straw with green edges, fine persistent bubbles, and the kind of brightness that makes you reach for a second glass. The nose is flowers, ripe fruit, and citrus — clean and inviting. On the palate it's vivacious and well-balanced, white fruit and citrus riding crisp acidity to a lingering, refreshing finish. At 11.5% alcohol, it's built for the long afternoon.

This is $21.99 Cava that drinks like the $35 bottles sitting next to it on the shelf. The difference is the estate fruit, the ten months on lees, and the fifth-generation discipline that refuses to cut corners. If you're buying Prosecco at this price, you're leaving quality on the table.
