Capri is a beautiful island in the Bay of Naples that sings la dolce vita. It attracts visitors worldwide with its stunning landscapes, luxurious atmosphere, and unparalleled panoramas of the iridescent Mediterranean waters.
While exploring Capri by boat offers a unique perspective of the island's coastline, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy and discover its beauty without one. The island is home to stellar places to stay, eat, and drink that you can reach easily by foot, taxi, or public transportation once on the island.

Arriving on Capri

From Napoli

For those coming from Napoli, there are regular ferries from Port Molo Beverello daily. They are operated by different companies such as Caremar, SNAV, and NLG. The trip takes approximately 40 minutes to an hour.

From Sorrento

Visiting Capri is easy if you’re in Sorrento. Ferries head to the island often, and the trip doesn’t take long at all - just around 25 to 30 minutes. There are also ferries departing from Seiano, a village just before Sorrento.

Whether arriving from Napoli or Sorrento, it is best to book tickets in advance if possible, especially during the heavy tourist season. This will save you all the stress!

Where to Eat

Things may seem touristy in Capri if you don’t know where to go. With these recommendations, you will be able to savor the most from the island’s iconic cuisine.

La Fontelina Restaurant

The Faraglioni rock formations are one of Capri’s most iconic features. If you don’t have a boat to cruise past them, don’t worry - you’re not missing out. You can dine overlooking the Faraglioni at La Fontelina, a picturesque beach club, and restaurant. You can head here early to snag beach chairs and take a dip before lunch. Their chic yet relaxed restaurant is the place to eat all the seafood. All of their pasta options are excellent and we recommend their gamberetti fritti to start your fish feast. Best to book ahead - they offer two seatings at 1 pm and 3 pm, which fill up fast.

Michel'angelo Capri

Before we go any further, we must say that this isn’t a restaurant - it’s an experience! Michel’angelo Capri is a family-run cooking school in Anacapri. The owners Gianluca and Holly used to run Ristorante Michel’angelo until they decided to focus their skills and love of the island on experiential food storytelling. Today, you can enjoy their cooking classes or unique private dining experiences that feature traditional recipes from Gianluca’s family, coupled with vibrant stories and history shared by Holly. It will make you feel right at home in Capri.

Lo Sfizio

If you’re wandering around Capri for the day, there’s a hidden gem you must know. It’s name - Lo Sfizio. It has everything to please everyone: pizza, seafood, and even roasted meats. Now, in some Italian rule books, this would be considered a lot of things in one place. However, Lo Sfizio is a cucina casareccia or a kitchen dedicated to easy homemade cooking, which means everyone leaves happy. That said, it isn’t the place for fancy Capri frills, but rather dishes that are simple and delicious, with prices to match too.

Villa Margherita

Nestled in the charming streets of Anacapri, Villa Margherita is a family restaurant serving authentic Caprese cuisine. The ambiance brings a balance of chic Mediterranean elegance and cozy island energy. When it comes to the food, you’ll feel just the same. The menu focuses on simple delicious dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, presented in a clean, sophisticated manner. You’ll leave satisfied (and with a lot of Instagramm-able photos.)

Where to Drink

For an ideal afternoon pick-me-up, aperitivo, or post-dinner drink, Capri offers a slew of destinations to have the perfect glass of wine or cocktail.

YUU-BAR-GALLERY

Put a sommelier and interior designer together, and watch them create a magical place to drink. This little bar is nestled in the rocks of an old monastery, with a gorgeous little outlook to the sea. The pops of color from the chairs to the bottles make an artsy contrast to the exposed stone comprising the walls. That said, you always feel cool at YUU-BAR-GALLERY - whether it's from the 6th century stone acting as natural temperature control or sipping an expertly made martini that makes you feel as if you are in a film by Fellini.

Jacky Bar

Located in Anacapri, Jacky Bar is a trendy and vibrant spot in the Capri Tiberio Palace Hotel. There, it's easy to feel cozy in any of their plush seats as you pursue their menu of cocktails including the most fun spritz variations. Jacky Bar also comes with excellent sea views to savor during the day. But, if you come for aperitivo or after dinner, chances are you can enjoy live music.

La Cappanina Più

When dining in Capri, everyone knows La Cappanina and its undoubtedly romantic garden. Fortunately, this Caprese institution has opened a fabulous wine bar that is colorful and gorgeous, just like the island of Capri itself. It's a great place to head before dinner or even after, as they also offer wonderful yummy cocktails. They also have a wine shop where you can take home local wines from the area, like a Capri Bianco DOC or a delicious Biancolella from the neighboring island of Ischia.

Where to Stay

Capri HotelFor those choosing to stay on the island, there are hotels that will fulfill your most magnificent Capri dreams, each perfect for a one-night stay or a weekend getaway.

Capri Palace Hotel

Total luxury awaits at the Capri Palace Hotel, located in the town of Anacapri. It is situated on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the Gulf of Naples. Those pursuing a culinary experience are in good hands at the Capri Palace - it's home to L'Olivo, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, and Riccio, a Michelin-starred beachfront restaurant. It's also home to quite a private art collection.

JK Place Capri

Situated in the heart of Capri, this boutique hotel is part of a small group of luxury hotels upholding quite a level of hospitality. The villa with its modern elegance and homey touches makes you feel as if you found your Caprese home away from home. Even better is this hotel's convenient location - it's not too far from Marina Grande, making it very simple to get to without a boat (or taxi, depending on how light you pack.)

Hotel Caesar Augustus

Just as the name suggests, this is a hotel fit for an Emperor. Its decor expresses a casual elegance, with white marble and Mediterranean accents almost as seductive as its infinity pool that melts into the hotel’s endless view of the Gulf of Naples. Overall, this five-star hotel boasts breathtaking views of the sea, beautifully appointed rooms, and a peaceful atmosphere.

Capri Tiberio Palace

This stylish hotel is one thing: inviting. From its colorful décor to its rooftop pool to its excellent location, Capri Tiberio Palace makes a stay in Capri beautifully easy. Its location just off Capri’s main piazzetta makes arriving simple and savoring the energy of Capri’s town at your leisure. While the hotel is a classic, its design is modern and eclectic, with a little twist on the classic Capri style.

Visiting Capri? With this guide, you will be in good hands to discover the island even without a private boat trip. Just remember to pack light and come hungry - there’s a lot of exploring by foot and stomach ahead.
