About the Wine
Rivesaltes is one of the great sweet wines of the world. Produced in the Languedoc Roussillon region of SW France, these wines live for decades since they are fortified. They can be produced from both white and red grapes, although Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Muscat, Macabeu, and Malvasia prevail in the region. The wines are sweetened only with the natural grape sugars present at harvest. For this reason they are called Vin Doux Naturel.
These special wines make fantastic birth year gifts. Imagine drinking a wine born in the same year as you! But, they are also a perfect way to travel in time. These wines are like time capsules from another era. If you listen and taste carefully, these wines often have amazing stories to tell.
Inquire about other birth year wines; we have additional vintages available.
Blend: 50% Grenache Noir and 50% white grapes: Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Maccabeu, Tourbat.
*Original Wood Case is Available.
Reviews
The 1949 Rivesaltes has an elegant bouquet with beautiful scents of ripe strawberry, orange zest, burnt toffee and licorice. It shows superb clarity and demonstrates a little more intensity than the 1945. The palate is medium-bodied and feels quite thick in the mouth. Strong licorice aromas form the basis of this Vin Doux Naturel with a slight viscosity on the honeyed, sandalwood-infused finish. This is one of the best offerings at the moment and comes highly recommended. Drink now-2025+ ~94 WA

We had a pleasure to share this vintage treasure in small company of friends. This wine is very rich and aromatic. It has a beautiful dark brown color and some notes of raisins in its scent.

So lively, medium body and concentration. Sweet dried dates, prune, apricot, other dried red fruits, toffee. Very plesant and no sign of over ox notes nor savoury note. Everyone loved.
