About The Wine

Château Angélus is one of Saint-Émilion's most celebrated estates — named for the Angelus bells audible from its vineyards, run by the de Boüard de Laforest family for eight generations, and elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé 'A' in 2012. Its signature blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the appellation's famed pied de côte slopes is among the most recognizable wines in all of Bordeaux.

The 2009 is a monument. From a benchmark ripe vintage and yields of just 20 hl/ha, this 60% Merlot / 40% Cabernet Franc, raised in 100% new oak, was called a candidate for the best Angélus ever made by Wine Advocate. Fifteen years on, the re-reviews have only climbed: Jeb Dunnuck awarded it a perfect 100 in 2024 — 'a perfect wine in every way' — and The Wine Independent matched it at 100 the same year.

Now at the start of its mature drinking window with decades still ahead, this is Right Bank Bordeaux at its absolute summit.
