2012 Lecheneaut Nuits-St.-Georges Au Chouillet Vieilles Vignes

From the heart of Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits comes a Pinot Noir that defies all expectations. Made from 50 year-old vines across three parcels, the Lecheneaut brothers coax terroir into their Pinot Noir, no matter what challenges each vintage brings. In 2012, the ripe and hearty vintage is uplifted with crushed blackberry and raspberry and aromas of crushed violets and rose with an earthy finish. If you’ve wondered why there’s hype about Burgundy, this wine says it all.     

About the wine

The Lechenaut Gevrey Chambertin is an authentic pinot noir, varietally correct, with a deep ruby hue and enchanting aromatics of fresh cherry, strawberry, and rose. With a few more years in the bottle those will soften beautifully and reveal savory tones of leather, dried florals and dusty earth. Made completely from their own vines, Domaine Lecheneaut focuses on a family plot of just 10 hectares allowing the two brothers a laser focus on quality in the fields and the cellar. From biodynamic farming to judicious use of new oak and these wines are completely handcrafted and incredibly limited. Add in Jurassic limestone and chalky clay soils and the Lecheneaut bottlings become ones to savor and cherish--get this while you still can!

Offers a rich, velvety swath of cherry, raspberry and currant fruit, tinged by a touch of flowers and spice. Features a firm structure and the finish is a bit rigid for now, but overall this shows balance and poise. Best from 2018 through 2032. 20 cases imported. ~ 92pts WS 

The 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges Au Chouillet is deep, fleshy and very nicely textured in the glass. Red stone fruits, flowers and spices are given an extra dimension of creaminess in a wine that boasts gorgeous textural nuance and layers of depth. Although it is quite expressive, the 2012 is also holding back quite a bit, which makes me think it will offer a wide window of fabulous drinking. ~92VM
