In 1976, Dick and Ann Grace purchased a Victorian styled home north of St. Helena and planted one acre of Cabernet Sauvignon giving way to one of Napa's first cult wineries: Grace Family Vineyards. The winery has never been opened to the public and has an illustrious history of winemakers over the years. Charlie Wagner became the first winemaker to produce wine from their estate labeling the wine as "Caymus Vineyards Grace Family Vineyard." Eventually, Dick and Ann separated with Wagner, started their own label, and brought in winemaker Gary Galleron, followed by Randy Dunn and Heidi Barrett. Their's no doubt their roster of winemakers would challenge the 1992 Dream Team.
Grace Family Vineyards produces on average 650 cases annually from 3-acres of vines. Dick and Ann have gone above and beyond with their label starting the Grace Family Vineyards Foundation using wines fro charity auction and working towards a greater cause. A significant proportion of the annual production has been donated to charity auctions around the world.
Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is full, intense, and nuanced. Raspberry, boysenberry, rose petal, tarragon drives the wine with a hint of eucalyptus laying in the foreground. Smooth and silky tannins greet the tastebuds with grace and freshness. From the onset of the first sip, it's clear that this is one of Napa's finest and most refined wines.
Wonderful dusty texture with terracotta and dark fruit undertones. Also shows eucalyptus. Full-bodied, round and velvety. Fabulous texture and length. Savoy. From Dick Grace's vineyard in Rutherford Bench. Drinkable now but better in 2020. ~97 James Suckling
