About the Wine
This wine is a St. Emilion inspired blend from the Central Coast of California.
Aged 19 months in 50% new French oak, this wine is a blend of 52% Cabernet Franc and 48% Merlot. The wine has a dark ruby purple core. It's an aromatic red with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, complex notes of spiced vanilla, licorice, cinnamon, and subtle dried leaf, cedar and camphor notes.
In the mouth, the wine is full bodied, fresh with red and black fruit and baking spice on entry with savory fall leaves, cedar pencil and leather meeting sustained sweet spice on the midpalate. The finish is long and complex with wild cherry, camphor and savory elements wrapped in firm, balanced tannins. This is an elegant, wonderfully balanced wine that mixes complex fruit and savory elements with generous texture, all while staying fresh on the palate.
About the Winery
Started in 1981 by Justin Baldwin, Justin Winery has become a standard bearer in Paso Robles and Central Coast. The success of Justin's Cabernet and Bordeaux inspired blends put Paso on the map. In 2010, billionaire Stewart Resnick purchased the winery, ushering in new investment in vineyards, operations, and infrastructure. Mr. Resnick has cornered the market with well known grocery products like POM pomegranate drink, FIJI water, Wonderful Pistachios, and Halo citrus. From strength to strength, Justin winery continues expansion in quality and distribution.
One of the top wines from California's Paso Robles region, the 2013 Justin Vineyards & Winery Justification successfully illustrates a fine effort from the Right Bank (specifically Saint-Émilion) of Bordeaux. These wines are classically defined as soft and elegant in comparison to their counterparts from the Médoc or Left Bank. This wine shows beautiful, ripe fruit aroma and a silky palate texture. It finishes smooth and supple in the aftertaste. A fine choice with grilled lamb chops would be the perfect match. Drinking well now, with potential to develop over the next several years. ~91pts WW
