About the Wine

Château de Santenay is one of Burgundy’s oldest and largest Domains. Its prestigious heritage is the product of a time-old legacy closely tied to the history of Burgundy. Originally built in the 9th century, the Chateau has housed Dukes, Kings, and many royal families while producing world-class Pinot and Chard since the 13th century. 235 acres of vineyards in 18 different villages provide a diverse and wide array of Burgundian wines for this storied estate. This single-vineyard Chard has all the pieces in place to wow any wine drinker, from the savvy Burgundian connoisseur to those who have yet to experience the magic of Burgundy. It's time to discover why the sommelier community goes crazy for these wines!

The 2014 Chateau de Santenay 'Clos de la Chaise Dieu' Bourgogne Blanc is produced in the village of Saint-Aubin, renowned for the quality of its white wines. This monopole is situated on a hillside, beautifully exposed to the south-southwest.

Strong limestone dominant soils along with light clays and sand, provide great drain-ability allowing the plant's roots to plunge deep and benefit from the natural minerals buried deep within Burgundy.

For the last 20 years, the Domaine has been taking an environmentally-friendly approach to growing, proving itself to be a true pioneer in this respect. It has been TERRA VITIS certified since 2004 and was certified by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2009 for its use of sustainable growing methods. In 2015, it was one of the first wine Domaines to receive ‘High Environmental Value’ (HEV 3) certification respecting a new set of specifications issued by the French Ministry of Agriculture.

Elevage: Barrel Fermented 12 months in 30% French Oak

Tasting Notes

100% Chardonnay. This wine reveals a charming pale yellow color with green reflections. On the nose, the floral aromas are delicately released with notes of hawthorn and apple. The ample mouth reveals fresh almond notes with a nice tension on the finish.
