About the Wine

“In creating each of our wines, we want to offer the best interpretation of the quintessence of the Medoc, the singular expressions of four inseparable factors: our terroirs, our grape varieties, our environment, and know-how.” ~ Jean Guyon.

Jean Guyon purchased Domaine Rollan de By, a leader of the Crus Bourgeois, with under 5 acres of total property in 1989. At the time the estate was already known for making quality wine, but today it is one of the most significant properties in the Médoc region. This is due in part to the growth of nearly 500 acres and exceptional terroir located around the area of By. Domaines Rollan de By balances, respecting the local environment while also embracing modern technologies that further enhance these exceptional wines.

"The leitmotifs of 2014 are freshness, terroir expression, an erring towards red rather than black fruit, crisp and occasionally quite edgy tannins, and vivacity. These are wines destined to sing in the wine glass, wines less concerned with impressing critics like me, more intent in pleasing consumers like you (and me)" ~Neal Martin

2014 Chateau Rollan de By Medoc is the result of the excellence and perseverance of Jean Guyon. This wine is made with the best fruit from the vineyards of By, which is managed with sustainable farming practices. The result is simply magnificent: An elegant, subtle, and well-polished wine!

Tasting Notes: 70% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot. This is a complex wine that offers firm tannins and rich fruit. It has weight, density, and a strong sense of ripeness. With balance and depth, it’s a wine with good aging potential.

Reviews

"The savory and earthy notes give this a lot of personality." ~91 James Suckling.

"The home chateau of the group of properties owned by the Guyon family, this estate has produced a solid very age-worthy wine. It has dark tannins and rich juicy black fruits. With its structure and bright berry and plum flavors, it will not be ready to drink before 2020." ~91 Wine Enthusiast
