About the Wine

Chateau Nenin is located on the “Right Bank” of Bordeaux, in the Pomerol appellation, was former owned by the Despujol Family since 1847. But in 1997 it became property of the Delon Family. The family has deep roots and experience in Bordeaux, they were owners of Chateau Leoville Las Cases in St. Julien appellation and Chateau Potensac located in Haut Médoc.

In 1999 they expanded the estate by purchasing 4 hectares of vineyard from Chateau Certan Giraud. Later in 2004, a restructuring of the winery was carried out; from the vineyard to the cellar. The cellar was extended and renewed with modern equipment. And to finish this magnificent renovation, they built a new vat room with state-of-the-art equipment.

Chateau Nenin has 32 ha of planted vineyard: 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alluvial soils composed by siliceous clay and gravel, quartz, granite, iron-deposits and basalt pebbles.

Michelle Rolland is Chateau Nenin winemaker consultant and Fugue de Nénin is the estate's second wine.

The 2014 harvest went by with a humid and mild winter. Heavy rains in June, July and August, and from mid-August to September, the weather became pleasantly warm, with excellent hot days. The sun helped to ripen the tannins of the skin and the seeds.

Tasting Notes

Strawberry and cherry on the nose, hints of raspberry confiture and wood oak. Firm tannins and polished finish. Pair this wine with all types of classic meat dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms and pasta.

Blend: 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc.

Critical Reviews

Love the clarity to this second wine of Nenin with strawberry and cherry aromas that follow through to a full to medium body, a solid core of fruit and very polished tannins”. ~ 91 JS

“With low yields after a hailstorm, the wine is concentrated and dense. It has a touch of wood aging as well as dark black fruits. The tannins are firm in a wine that will age well over the medium term. Drink from 2023” ~ 90 Roger Voss. (WE)
