About the Wine
Tasting notes: The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is big and lush with huge gobs of fruit in the aroma and flavor. The texture of the wine is soft and supple, typical of Cabernet Sauvignons grown in our area of the Oakville AVA. The sweet vanilla character derived from 22 months in the barrels blends well with the black cherry and blackberry flavors and aromas of the wine. 40% new French oak.
Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon 80%, Merlot 20%
About the Winery
Since 1981, the Groth family have owned and operated over 165 acres of prime real estate in Oakville between Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail. The winery sits across the street from Silver Oak. It is 1.4 miles from Opus One and 2 miles from Nickel & Nickel and Mondavi. Cakebread and Plumpjack are also nearby.
Today, the Dennis and Judy Groth's children are involved in managing the next generation of the winery. In 2014, Cameron Parry was installed as only the third winemaker in the history of the estate. His young, fresh, and technical insight has already raised the standard of these wines.
Reviews
Complex aromas of blackcurrants and blackberries with hints of stones and pine needles follow through to a full body, firm and round tannins and a flavorful finish. Needs time to come together. Try in 2019. ~92pts, JS
Blended with 20% Merlot, this is a finely made wine that pleases in its granular texture and bright acidity. Sinewy in feel, it has fleshy aspects of red cherry and cassis that are complemented by a cradling of vanilla oak. ~ 91pts, WE
