2014 Martellotto "La Gioia" Merlot Santa Ynez Valley
The Martellotto Merlot wine is a blend of 75% Merlot from Camp 4 vineyard and 25% Cabernet Franc from Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara. The blend is reminiscent of the great wines from the right bank in Bordeaux, especially in the area around St. Emilion.
"La Gioia" means "the joy" in Italian and this wine is indeed very enjoyable to drink. Red raspberry fruits combine with a smooth cocoa and dark chocolate finish. The Cab Franc brings the Mediteranean herbs and a touch of mint. This is the most "old world" styled wine I currently produce and it is very limited. Due to the demand of the Red Blend and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot has not been bottled as a single varietal since 2014.
Only 1 case remains.
