About the Wine

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is classified as a Second Growth from the 1855 Grand Cru Classification. This is the second wine from the famed estate. Sourced from the same estate from younger vines, the Réserve de la Comtesse was created and sold for the first time in 1973. The second wine represents between 20 percent and 50 percent of the total production of the Chateau. From the same soil, the second wine benefits from the technology and reputation of the great wine and is produced by the hands of the same winemaking team. The archives kept at Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande mention the existence of a second wine as early as the 19th century.

The average age of the vines is 35 years old. The wine was in 40% new French oak for 12 months.

2015 is an exceptional vintage and joins the prestigious list of other outstanding years like 1959, 1982, 1996, 2009, 2010,… 2018.

Blend: 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. 4% Cabernet Franc

Reviews

This is an impressive second wine. It shows a lot of vibrant red berries, blackberries and darker plum fruits. The palate is impressive for the vibrant and lively acidity cast amid sturdy but supple tannins. ~93 James Suckling

~93 Tim Atkin, Master of Wine

There are plenty of tannins here along with fresh black currant fruits. This wine is structured and firm in the style of a Pauillac. But it also has a softer side, with elegance and light. This wine will develop relatively quickly over the next 10 years. ~93 Wine Enthusiast.

The nose is fruity, concentrated, fine and elegant. It reveals notes of blackberry and cassis associated with a discreet hint of blueberry, a touch of Zan as well as a hint of spice and slight notes of black tea. The palate is fruity, gourmand, suave, well-balanced, racy, relatively fat, nicely fleshy and offers a nice density (more than on the 2014 vintage) as well as a silky and a quite slight creamy matter. In the mouth this wine expresses notes of cassis, blackberry and a touch of blueberry associated with a hint of fig, a touch of liquorice as well as a discreet hint of red fruit, slight notes of coffee (in the background) and a discreet touch of flowers (cornflower). Tannins are fine and well built. Good length. ~92-93 VertdeVin
