About the Wine

Situated in the heart of the Chianti region, Il Molino Di Grace is an enchanting capture of Chianti Classico's essence, boasting a rich history and a passion for crafting exceptional Tuscan wines.

Il Molino Di Grace's story dates back over 350 years when the vineyards first bloomed under the watchful care of local monks. Today, the Frank Grace family carries forward this timeless tradition with unwavering dedication, crafting critically acclaimed wines that celebrate the harmonious union of Tuscan terroir.

At the heart of the winery lies the iconic 19th-century windmill, after which it was aptly named. This historic landmark serves as a reminder of the winery's heritage, while embracing the future with modern winemaking techniques.

Founded by Frank Grace in the 1990s, the vision for Il Molino Di Grace was clear: To bottle the purest expression of the rocky terroir and succulent Sangiovese fruit that the Chianti hills deserve. It is a place where the artful traditions of old-world winemaking seamlessly blend with the innovation and technology of modern organic practices.

Sustainability is at the core of Il Molino Di Grace's philosophy. With a commitment to biodynamic practices, the vineyards are treated with utmost care, plowed once every three years, and the cuttings from the vines fuel the winery's heating and air conditioning, leaving no carbon footprint.

The crown jewel of Il Molino Di Grace is the 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, an exquisite wine aged to perfection. Gran Selezione is the newest quality designation to have been added to the DOCG classification system in Chianti Classico. Gran Selezione takes quality controls a step further than Riserva-- which previously occupied the top tier-- by banning the use of any purchased, or non-estate-grown fruit, in the inclusion of a wine labeled Gran Selezione. This coupled with longer aging requirements (30 months minimum) and minimum levels of alcohol set to 13% designates a band of wines from Chianti Classico producers representative of the appellation's highest quality potential with often limited availability.

2015 was an amazing year for Chianti. Wine Spectator blessed this vintage with a 97-point review, and said the wines are "Long-lived, powerful and concentrated reds, yet the best have purity and elegance; great value."

Aging: 16 months in French barriques and tonneaux new and first use.

Critical Reviews

A powerful and very rich Gran Selezione with dense and rich fruit and polished, linear tannins. Shows impressive depth. Full-bodied, soft and chewy. One for the cellar. Drink or hold. ~95 James Suckling

A core of sweet, ripe fruit grabs your attention, featuring cherry, plum, leather, earth and spice notes. Powerful, with burly tannins. The long aftertaste echoes the fruit, earth and spice elements. Best from 2021 through 2035. 2,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported. ~94 Wine Spectator

Clear, rich ruby with fine garnet shimmer. Very vivid and intense nose of blackberry, pomegranate and dark cherry. Hearty and gripping initially, shows a lot of firm tannin, then a little restrained on the finish. ~93 Falstaff
