About the Wine
Rocca delle Macie lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico region at the center of Tuscany. Although the estate and to a larger extent, the region is famous for its Sangiovese, Super Tuscans have been driving it home. In the 2015 vintage the estate decided to take a risk and bottle this as a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon instead of its typically Cab-Sangiovese blend, and it certainly paid off. Production was low on this wine, do not miss your chance to add this to your collection.
Rocca delle Macìe was established in 1973 when former Boxer and Movie director Italo Zingarelli decided to realize his lifelong dream by acquiring the “Le Macìe” estate(extending across 93 hectares (230 acres) in all, of which only two were under vine) in order to create a winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Rocca delle Macìe implements agronomic techniques that are geared not only towards constantly improving the products but also towards respecting the environment.
Rocca delle Macìe was established on a solid base of ethical values, constructed by Italo in order to make his dream a reality. The respect of his children and their capacity to build upon what they had received did the rest. The Zingarelli family has not compromised on this approach as the business has grown. Rocca delle Macìe has now become one of the largest wine producers in Italy, and remain committed to preserving a land that is healthy and clean, and always in a position to offer up its very best fruits.
Tasting Notes: This wine is deep ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose is rich in bouquet and persistent, with hints of red berries and spices like cocoa, vanilla, and coffee. On the palate, it is warm and well-balanced, with a consistent structure of tannins which support the long finish of the wine.
Very nicely done on the nose with a wealth of brambleberries, dark cherries, mocha, dark chocolate, licorice and bay leaf. Full-bodied and really delicious, carrying layers of dark fruit through succulent and polished tannins. Drink from 2021. ~94 James Suckling
A thickly textured red, boasting plum, fruitcake, milk chocolate, leather, earth and spice notes. Dense, tannic and rigid on the finish for now. Best from 2021 through 2030. 550 cases made, 50 cases imported. ~92 Wine Spectator
Rocca delle Macie's 2015 Roccato, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is plush and inviting. Black cherry, chocolate, espresso, menthol, licorice and cloves all race out of the glass in a sumptuous, racy Cabernet Sauvignon that hits all the right notes. Medium in body and expressive, the 2015 has plenty to offer. ~92 Vinous Media
