Critical Reviews
It's important to recognize that Shafer is still a family operation and very much hands on. The total production at Shafer is significantly less than many of the large, well known commercial brands. You can taste the difference.
One Point Five takes its name from the term “a generation and a half,” coined by John and Doug Shafer to describe their long father-and-son
partnership. Since 1983 this family team has worked together to manage their Stags Leap District winery.
Shafer Vineyards is a 30,000 case winery in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District managed by the father and son team of John and Doug Shafer. The Shafer family owns and farms 200 acres of vineyards, sources for Shafer’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah, and Petite Sirah.
Reviews
Taut and leathery, this is a thickly tannic, incredibly structured and powerful wine, softened by 7% Merlot and 3% Malbec. Extracted black fruit is poised amongst earthy truffle, crushed rock and black pepper, the aromas and flavors integrated and built to age. Enjoy best 2025-2030. ~97pts WE
