About the Wine

For over two centuries, the Brotte family has been immersed in the world of wine, crafting exceptional wines that tell the story of their ancestral roots. The family's journey began back in 1880 when Mr Amouroux and Mr Clouplet, (current owner’s Laurent and Christine Brotte's ancestor), toiled in the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Cairanne. Their commitment and love for winemaking ensured the perpetuity of the vineyards, which would later become the esteemed Domaine Barville and Domaine Grosset.

In 1931, Charles Brotte, a visionary graduate from a business school in Marseille, founded "Maison Brotte" in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. With a pioneering spirit, Maison Brotte introduced a wide range of Rhône Valley wines, revolutionizing the industry. Jean-Pierre Brotte, Charles' son, took the reins in 1970 and expanded the brand's reach, establishing a global presence in over 100 countries, including Canada, the United States, and Japan.

Today, the legacy continues as Laurent Brotte and his wife Christine carry the torch of excellence. The fourth generation of the family, they have tirelessly worked to refine winemaking techniques, develop vineyards, and enhance the overall quality of their wines. Joining them in 2015, the fifth generation, Thibault and Benoît, infuse the company with fresh ideas and energy. Together, these three generations harmoniously collaborate to propel the Brotte business forward.

Rhône is a Valley where magic happens; where winemaking has been woven into the fabric of the land for centuries. Originally established by the Greeks in the 5th century B.C., these vineyards hold a rich heritage. The Romans, recognizing the region's potential, nurtured the vineyards over many centuries, utilizing the Rhone River as a vital trade route for their prized wines.

However, the region faced adversity during the collapse of the Roman Empire, halting its commercial growth. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Rhône Valley's wines experienced a renaissance in the 14th century, courtesy of the Papacy. The ecclesiastical influence revived economic growth and set the stage for the region's viticultural prominence.

Today, the wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape in Rhone, are recognized for their unique character and exceptional quality, with Robert Parker calling it "one of the world's most prestigious appellations.”

Brotte 'Les Hauts de Barville' is an ode to CDP. This exceptional blend harmoniously combines the unique character of Grenache, the depth of Syrah, and the complexity of Mourvèdre grapes. From the first sip to the lingering finish, this wine will transport you to the sun-soaked vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Aging: in French oak barrels and the Grenache in 100-year-old foudres for a year.

Tasting Notes

Ruby with purple glints. Rich symphony of red fruits (strawberry dominates), spices, truffles, and garrigue. Rich and unctuous, with long-lasting aromas of red fruits and spices, the cuvée will seduce the amateurs of fruit in its youth, and those who will age the wine (up to 10 years) to savor its full potential and unique truffles and garrigue notes.

Critical Reviews

Dusty tangs of basalt juxtapose perfumed black cherry and raspberry on the nose of this plush red composed predominantly of Grenache and Syrah. Matured with no new-oak influences, it offers ripe but pure cassis and plum flavors shaded by hints of sun-dried garrigue and fine, sandpapery tannins. This elegant, slightly restrained Châteauneuf-du-Pape is ready now but should improve through 2028 and hold further. ~92 Wine Enthusiast

Refined style, with a tightly focused beam of bitter cherry and raspberry fruit laced with subtle tea, sandalwood and savory notes. Gently perfumed finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2030. 5,500 cases made, 1,880 cases imported. ~91 Wine Spectator
