2023 Dylans Ghost Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Napa Valley Cabernet doesn’t apologize. It shows up, takes the room, and somehow still has manners.

Dylan's Ghost has quiet roots. It was started by Joseph Carr — the same man behind Josh Cellars, one of the best-selling wines in America — as a smaller, personal project alongside the bigger brand. A few hundred cases a year, sold quietly, never chasing volume. Then it went dark. No new vintages, no updates, the kind of label that just fades from view.

Now it's back, in the hands of winemaker Robert Smith. Smith crafts the wines at Quixote — the Hundertwasser-designed estate in Stags Leap District, one of the most architecturally singular properties in Napa Valley — where he works alongside consulting winemaker Philippe Melka on organically farmed, estate-only Cabernet. It's exacting company, and that same discipline shapes this bottle.

Tension, texture, and a sense of place that hasn't been smoothed over — that is what Smith says he is after, and it's a fair description of what ended up in this bottle.
