2016 Chateau Fourcas Borie

Bruno Borie was born into a very peculiar family, his mother is Monique Rochette,  one of the oldest winemaking households in the Medoc area, owners of Ducluzeau, an iconic Château that dates to 1700. And his father was Jean-Eugène, owner of no other than the esteemed 2nd growth, Ducru-Beaucaillou. 

Bruno has continued his parent's work and taken the reins of Ducru-Beaucaillou and Ducluzeau. Both Châteaux are today at the top of their games.

Since 2009, he took the leadership of the 3rd family Château, Fourcas-Borie with one goal in mind: “to improve the quality of the wine, to contemporize without changing the wine’s true nature or disturbing the purity of the flavors found in the Listrac terroir. To share the wines of this underestimated region with wine lovers around the world.”

Listrac is one of the 6 communes of the Medoc appellation. The estate is located about 15 miles away from the Atlantic, overlooking the Medoc peninsula. The 86-acre vineyard is planted on a gentle rise, where half of the soil is gravel on a clay base and the rest is clay-siliceous soil on a base of limestone. The vines (mostly Merlot, Cab Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot) are of 25-year-old average.

This is an exceptional Merlot-based wine that’s loved by some of the major wine critics in the world. A well-structured, cheerful wine, filled with stunning black fruit aromas and flavors, and amazing cellaring potential.

Aging: 12 months, 20% in new oak barrels, and 80% in one-year-old barrels.
