Tuscany can be awash with insipid Chianti that fails to inspire. But, Sangiovese is one of the noblest grapes in the world and Tuscany is home to the superstar producers of the varietal. La Sala is one of those producers we look to year after year. Within the Chianti Classico region, this Riserva from this stellar vintage will charm and reel you back into great Chianti.
La Sala’s history dates back to 1260. It was under the name of Grande Terra Murata, owned by the noble Giandonati family. At the beginning of the 15th century, the land was sold to the Acciaiuoli, in 1534 to the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Between 1981 and 2014, the property was owned by Laura Baronti, who together with oenologist Gabriella Tani, helped La Sala become one of the most prominent wineries in Chianti Classico!
In 2014 new owner Francesco Rossi Ferrini made a dream come true by creating wine and olive oil of superior quality in the beautiful area of San Casciano Val di Pesa in Tuscany. The estate has several fields at different altitudes and types of sun exposure; this guarantees excellent harvests even in the toughest years. Today, 168 acres, belong to La Sala Estate, of which 70 acres are dedicated to vines and 68 of those are part of the Chianti Classico. In recent years, the winery and the vineyards have been modernized and upgraded to enhance the product and the brand.Including the 2016 La Sala Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG.
