2016 Luigi Maffini Kratos Fiano di Avellino
About the Wine
Luigi Maffini is one of the finest producers in the Campania regions, highly regarded for his work with the Fiano and Aglianico grapes. Located in Cilento, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, Maffini grows Fiano that is drenched in the salt air. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is an area embraced by the most untouched part of the Gulf of Salerno. The area is very near the important Greek ruins at Paestum. Given that the region has been producing wine for millenia, drinking this wine is drinking history.
Reviews
Pale straw-green. Clean and fresh aromas of pear, apple and minty herbs. Ripe and well balanced in the mouth; the apple and pear flavors are nicely complicated by lemony and saline undertones. Finishes long and bright, but less concentrated than some of the better, past versions of Kratos. ~90pts, VM
