About the Wine

Montevetrano takes its name from a medieval castle that dates to Roman times. A former property of the French Bourbons, the estate itself was the inspiration for this blend of French varietals with the Campanian king of red grapes - Aglianico. This is the estate's pure expression of Aglianico hailing from an experimental vineyard in San Cipriano. The name Core comes from the local dialect meaning heart, intended to show the love and care of Montevetrano. Riccardo Cotarella is highly regarded as the leading wine consultant in all of Italy. Cotarella wines are in high demand and short supply, taste the legacy of one of Italy's top wine-producing families

Montevetrano has a recognizable style, characterized by complexity, like the territory in which it is born with its variety of perfumes and colors. It is a wine with a strong persistence, that benefits from the influence of the sea and a mild climate. The vineyard is protected by the Picentini Mountains, which form like a crown around the property. Thanks to careful and respectful processing it the Montevetrano continues to mature in bottles for fifteen or twenty years. According to the tasting made during the years, the forecasts, and experts' opinions on the various vintages, Montevetrano guarantees great longevity.

Aging: 100% Aglianico, 10 Months in French Oak Barriques

Tasting Notes: This deep ruby-red wine displays aromas of red fruits and spices with undertones of licorice, earth, and leather.

Reviews

Extremely well crafted with ultra-fine tannins and beautiful and subtle aromas and flavors of black fruit, black pepper, and white pepper. Medium to full body. Polished and so enjoyable to taste. Can age beautifully. ~94 James Suckling

Very deep purple-ruby; this is very dark for an Aglianico wine. Delicate on the nose and remarkably light on its feet, offering sweet blueberry, red cherry, sweet spice, and floral flavors, similar to the aromas, that linger impressively on the juicy, long, clean finish. A knockout wine, and the best Aglianico ever from Montevetrano. ~94 Antonio Galloni
