About the Wine

“Fogliatonda was born from the desire to create great wines using only native Tuscan grapes, which enhance the concept of Pure Toscano” 

This amazing and unique wine is produced with 100% Foglia Tonda grapes. In case you’re not familiarized with this exotic variety, this is a centennial Tuscan native grape. It was recently rediscovered and today it's highly appreciated thanks to its potential to produce beautiful and elegant wines that are a perfect reflection of Tuscany’s outstanding terroir. However, this Tuscan grape is still very exclusive, and there are records of only 50 acres planted throw-out Tuscany.

2016 Podere Ema Fogliatonda Toscana IGT perfectly combines the best of both worlds: The ancient attributes of the grape with a modern winemaking style. 

Podere Ema Winery was founded more than 20 years ago by entrepreneurs and wine businessmen, Enrico Calvelli and Marco Stucchi. Their main goal, (which still remains today,) was to produce wines with only ancient native grapes in order to show the world the greatness of Tuscany's terroir. Today, they’re experimenting with more than 12 different grapes and the result is unique, rare, and coveted wines.

2016 was an outstanding vintage in Tuscany. Wine Spectator blessed this year with a 97-point review, stating that the wines are “Vibrant and elegant” and that the grapes were harvested “under ideal conditions.”

Tasting Notes: 100% Foglia Tonda. This wine is elegant, with a nice structure. It shows the beautiful aromas of red berries, cherries, and subtle spice notes. This is an extremely versatile wine that will pair lovely with typical Italian cuisine like tomato-based pasta and Bistecca Alla Fiorentina.
