About the Wine
Located in the golden part of Rioja Alavesa in the village LaPuebla de Labarca, the family-run Alonso López crafts outstanding Rioja wines from 40-year-old vines. These vineyards are located on the slopes of the Laguardia and Lapuebla de Labarca mountains, between 1400 and 1900 feet. The climate is uniquely influenced by multiple factors and can be described as Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Continental. The winery lies on the path of the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage site, Camino de Santiago, nestled in the heart of Spain’s world-famous Rioja Alta wine region.
Rioja is arguably Spains most important and well-established wine region. Produced from Spains most well-know varieties, Tempranillo and Grenache (sometimes Mazuelo and Graciano), Rioja wines are known for their age ability, structure, along with their ability to express fruit and oak in perfect harmony. Rioja has strict aging requirements for its four different classifications: Rioja, Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva. Traditionally produced with American Oak these wines are well structured with an ample amount of oak influence. French Oak is less common but is used to create a lighter and more elegant expression. Rioja wines offer great value for lovers of Bordeaux and California Cabernet.
