About the Wine

“Beautiful wine comes from beautiful places” and 2017 Clos de los Siete Red Blend Valle de Uco is the most accurate proof of that!

This region is overprivileged not only for its strategic location and unique soils made up of pebbles, clay, and sand, perfect for the plantation of varieties such as Malbec, Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot, but also for its breathtaking landscapes bordering the Andes Mountain.

Clos de los Siete is owned by no one else than Michel Rolland, who I’m pretty sure that if you are a savvy wine drinker and a French aficionado, you know very well!

Michel Rolland, also known as "Spielberg of Wine”, is one of the most recognized and acclaimed winemakers in the world. When he first arrived in Argentina in 1988, he was captivated by the culture, the landscapes, and above all, the great wine potential that this place had; it was love at first sight!

Michel invited his close friends from France to join his dream, and in 1998, one of the most praised and charming wineries in all of Argentina was born. The motto for Clos de los Siete was simple: "Create a unique wine that would show the potential of this terroir"; and they succeeded.

"Without a doubt, the most challenging project was the one we carried out in Mendoza: Clos de los Siete, 243 acres of vineyards, on 343 acres of land located in Valle de Uco, with 5 wineries included, together with French friends. A dream come true reality to which we now have the pleasure of incorporating the new generations of our families. Being able to see this stage is very gratifying. "~ Michel Rolland

Michel has become an Andes viticultural guru singlehandedly transforming the wine-producing pedigree of South America's leading wine producer!

2017 Clos de los Siete Red Blend Valle de Uco is a wine made with great care and love; the selection of all the grapes is manual, and it does not go through a process of clarification or filtration.

Aging: 11 months, 70% in new French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 52% Malbec, 21% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc. Intense and complex aromas of fruit and spice. Soft and silky tannins. The wine has an excellent balance and structure and a long finish. The perfect food for this wine is a nice and rich “Asado”.

Reviews

A very refined, creamy wine, showing blackberries and blueberries with chocolate and light hazelnut notes. Medium to full body. The fine tannins are polished and creamy and the beautiful, reserved finish goes on for a really long time. Wow! Best ever, because of its length and beauty. One for the palate or the cellar. Drink or hold. ~95 James Suckling.

“Assertive and confident wine displaying blueberries, blackberries, wet earth, and chocolate. Ripe, round, and juicy with a lovely savory finish.” ~94 Decanter.

Deep, rich flavors of roasted cherry, plum tart, and dried savory herbs are supported by firm acidity and tannins. Features a tensile frame, with slate accents midpalate. Dusty graphite notes show on the finish. Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2024. ~91 Wine Spectator.

There was a little more ripeness and concentration in the 2017 Clos de Los Siete, a harmonious and nicely crafted blend of 52% Malbec, 21% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. When tasted next to the 2016, this came through as more powerful, and many might prefer it, but I found better quality of tannins in the 2016, as this felt a little harsh in comparison, but nothing that one more year in bottle and/or powerful food couldn't fix. ~90 Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

Clos de los Siete makes wines from Vista Flores, Uco Valley, with support from Michel Rolland’s group of wineries. A blend of 52% Malbec, 15% Syrah, 21% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, 70% aged for 12 months in oak, this is a dense reddish-purple in the glass. The nose presents notes of licorice and plum jam plus vanilla and hints of balsam and black olives. Intense in the mouth, with fine-grained tannins and a compressed, concentrated style. Rolland’s profile is based around low freshness but intense flavors pitched up in the Uco Valley terroir. ~90 Vinous Media.
