Ripe fruit, fresh herbs, and luscious flowers; the 2017 Ogier Vacqueyras "Boiseraie" is a garden encapsulated in a bottle. The perfect backyard red you need by your side while cooking a juicy and herbaceous free range chicken.
The wine originates from terraced clay and limestone slopes intermixed with alluvial deposits. The cuvee sees approximately 15% whole cluster Grenache included into the wine. "Boiseraire" is racked one to two times before returning to the fermentation phase followed by small daily pump overs along with a long maceration period of 26 to 40 days. The wine is aged (60% in concrete vats, 30% in barrels and 10% in Demi Muids) for 9 to 10 months.
Tasting Notes: 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre. Strong red colour with purple highlights. Light aromas of thyme and rosemary mixed with blackcurrant and crushed raspberry, with notes of violet. Ample, bold, a beautiful personality; fabulous balance between the spices and the freshness of the fruit; evident but smooth tannins. Excellent when paired with grilled meat, meats in sauce and poultry.
Vacqueyras is the female counter part to Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It is the garden to the workshop, displaying elegance and personality. Decant this wine for 45 minutes and pair with your favorite grilled chicken recipe!
A pleasant surprise to emerge from this year's blind tastings was the fine showing of Ogier's 2017 Vacqueyras Boiseraie. A blend of 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre, aged in a mix of tank, foudre and demi-muids, this full-bodied, supple wine combines garrigue with ripe raspberries and chocolate overtones. The 2017 Vacqueyras Boiseraie is more elegant, with pretty black raspberries, flowers, and spice aromas and flavors. Elegant, medium-bodied, silky and polished, with juicy acidity, it's a terrific wine to enjoy over the coming 4-6 years. ~90 JD
