The Antinori family. I bet all wine lovers and enthusiasts are pretty familiar with this household name. An iconic Italian family that is known for producing some of the most emblematic wines in the world.
The Antinori family has been committed to the art of winemaking for over six centuries since 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member, of the “Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri”, the Florentine Winemakers’ Guild. This family is the world's oldest and most highly respected wine producer.
Antica is a compound word for “Antinori” and “California.” The name explains itself. Antica represents Antinori’s legacy in Napa Valley. Antica wines perfectly blend Old and New world styles. And with the expertise of winemaker Renzo Cotarella, they have managed to craft the finest expression of Napa Valley. Owner Albiera Antinori says “Rather than a ‘house style,’ we prefer to let each site speak for the wine. So while Antica remains true to our tradition and culture, its wines are indelibly imprinted with the terroir of Napa Valley.”
Townsend Vineyard is a 24-acre estate overlooking Rector Canyon and Napa Valley, with an ideal terroir of drained, volcanic soils, this place is a true paradise for the vines.
This iconic wine was born in one of the BEST vintages EVER in Napa Valley. Wine Spectator blessed 2018 with a nearly-perfect 99-point review, stating that this was "A spectacular year, with wines that are rich and dark, and very terroir-driven." And Decanter praised this year saying that "The 2018 vintage in Napa Valley belongs in an echelon with the finest of the past two decades."
Tasting Notes: 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. Opens with notes of cedar, violet, dark chocolate and black cherry. Licorice and graphite bring depth and intensity to this rich expression of the Townsend Vineyard. Fennel and black currant linger on the palate.
A full-bodied cabernet sauvignon that’s fruity on the nose with notes of crushed raspberries, berries and herbs. Some bark and stones. The palate is fresh with velvety tannins and a generous, savory finish. One for the cellar. Try after 2023. ~96 James Suckling.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Townsend Vineyard has a similar herbal/classic Cabernet nose of red and black currants, green tobacco, bouquet garni, sandalwood, and spring flowers. Also beautiful on the palate, it’s full-bodied and has a concentrated, layered mid-palate, building tannins, and just an all-around classic, age-worthy style. Give bottles 2-4 years in a cold cellar and enjoy over the following 20 years or more. The blend is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. ~95 Jeb Dunnuck.
