About the Wine

"Super Tuscans" are anarchic and revolutionary wines, wines that are not following the traditional winemaking rules in the region’s DOC and DOCG. Instead of using the classic grape of the region: Sangiovese, these wines are mainly made with grapes used for “Bordeaux Blends”, Cabernet Sauvignon, and/or Merlot. In some cases, Super Tuscans are even better than DOC and DOCG wines, but because of their “rebellion”, they have to be classified into lower categories such as "Vino da Tavola" or "Indicazione Geografica Tipica" (IGT).

Eklektos embraces the modern style of winemaking as 10% of the grapes are harvested late in order to obtain the rich, sweet blueberry fruit that defines many Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. People who love the wines of Orin Swift and Caymus will find an Italian friend here.

Corte Medicea winery was born from a passion for the Tuscan winemaking tradition. From its desire to follow the footsteps of the region’s greatest winemakers, Corte Medicea creates wines that express a vision of life as simple and pleasant but also intriguing and mysterious. The Corte Medicea vineyards are situated on picturesque rolling hills at an altitude of 380/400 meters, with clay/loam soils in the south of Tuscany.

Andrea Bernardini, Corte Medicea's consultant, is a passionate winemaker who has hit numerous home runs. In 2007, he graduated from Pisa, one of the best schools of enology in Italy. He earned his chops at Poggio Bonelli and Ruffino in Tuscany and trained in South Africa, Romania and Greece. After several years of experience, he is now a flying winemaker blending tradition and modern techniques to obtain high-quality wines with respect to the expression of the different grapes and terroir in which he works. He works hand in hand with Alex to produce these magical wines. 

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby red color. Intense aromas of mocha and pepper, and fresh notes of red fruits like plums, blueberries, and raspberries. On the palate, elegant and silky, with a full body and harmonious tannins. Pair this wine with aged cheeses, game, and red meat.
