About The Wine

Fasoli Gino has been working Veneto since 1925 — and went fully organic in 1979, when the second-generation Gino Fasoli developed a chemical allergy and decided the vineyards had to change. By 1984, the estate had committed to organic principles across the board.

Today, they're the only biodynamic producer in the region, a century-old family operation that's spent the last forty years proving you don't need shortcuts to make honest wine.

Amarone della Valpolicella is the big gun of Veneto — Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes dried for months before fermentation, concentrating sugar and flavor until the wine tastes like it weighs twice what the bottle says. It's the style that put the region on the fine-wine map, built for cellars and special occasions, and it almost always asks three figures. This one doesn't.

La Corte del Pozzo comes from the morainic hills around Lake Garda, where the soils and elevation give the dried-grape style a lift it doesn't always get in warmer sites. The grapes undergo appassimento — spread on trays in a cool environment for 50 to 60 days — then age a minimum of 36 months in barrique, pulling warmth and structure from the wood without losing the fruit.

Deep ruby in the glass, opening on tobacco, coffee, and black pepper, with plum, jam, spices, and eucalyptus filling out the bouquet.

The palate is warm and delicately tannic — vinous, clean, blackcurrant and plum at the core, backed by the kind of tannin that makes you want food on the table. The finish is both sweet and firmly structured, trailing a spicy edge.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

~96pts, Luca Maroni

An earthy, evolved wine with plum, prune, truffle and bay leaf aromas. Full-bodied, it shows tension, firm chewy tannins, juicy acidity and a polished finish of layered complexity. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling

THE PRODUCER

Fasoli Gino

Founded in 1925 in the heart of Soave, Veneto. Agricultural journey began in 1921 when Amadio Fasoli chose to focus on viticulture in the Illasi Valley, east of Verona.
