About the Wine

If there's a grape that represents the greatness of Argentinian wine, is Malbec. To quote Wine Enthusiast: “If you’re like most red-wine lovers, you’ve developed a fondness for Argentinian Malbec. Malbec from Argentina is generous, delicious and the perfect match for just about anything grilled.”

Tupungato is one of the most important and acclaimed wine regions in Mendoza, therefore, in all of Argentina. This region is located at the foot of the Andes Mountains and Mount Tupungato, one of the highest peaks in Argentina.

Thanks to its unique terroir, the combination of stony soils composed of coarse sand, and the altitude at 1,500 meters above sea level, the wines from Tupungato are sublime and highly praised by the most esteemed wine critics.

The surname Zuccardi has a well-deserved reputation in the wine industry worldwide. This family is not only responsible for producing some of the best Argentinian wines, but they also have the best wine tourism experience in the entire world: For the third consecutive year, Zuccardi Valle de Uco has been named "The Best Vineyard in the World" by the recognized magazine and digital media company, William Reed Business Medi.

This family business founded by engineer Alberto Zuccardi in 1963, has 6 different estates strategically placed in some of the best wine-growing areas of Mendoza. Today, it is directed by Sebastián Zuccardi, Alberto's grandson.

Sebastián is a visionary and innovative agronomist and winemaker who has made great strides and improvements since he took over the winery. Among other important achievements, he started and promoted a department of research and development that studies the terroir of the region, in order to better understand the land and improve the quality of their wines. Sebastian says: "We don’t look for perfect wines, but those that express the place, the region”.

The winery was built in 2013 and is a tribute to the majestic Andes mountains that surround it. Zuccardi Wines is sustainable in all aspects, from the vineyard to the cellar and even the architecture, where the construction is made with natural elements from the area. The wines are vinified in basins and amphoras allowing a more natural result and with the least possible human intervention.

2018 was an excellent year for the Uco Valley. Wine Spectator rated this vintage with 93 points: "Nearly ideal growing conditions deliver well-structured wines that feature fine-grained tannins and ripe fruit flavors; harvest yields return after a series of short vintages"

Tasting Notes: 100% Malbec. Aromas of ripe fruits like plums and cherries, mineral hints. The palate is balanced with soft and rounded tannins. Long finish with stone fruit and spice. Pair this wine with any grilled meat or vegetables.

Reviews

~95 Points, Descorchados.

“Ink, iodine, and blackberry aromas follow through to a full body, austere tannins, and a salt-block note. Extremely long and flavorful with some tar and nuts at the end. Drink or hold.” ~94 Points, James Suckling.

“The 2018 Polígonos Gualtallary Malbec is the wildest and ripest of the three Malbecs in this range, with tons of aromatic herbs, rockrose, thyme, lavender, and rosemary, intermixed with flowers and berries, penetrating, pungent and powerful. It's quite primary in the palate, beautifully textured, and with refined chalky tannins. This whole range is very good quality. 16,000 bottles were filled in February 2019.”~93+ Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

“A saturated black color and reduced aromas of blackberry, cassis, black olive, and asphalt gain more clarity with airing. On the palate, this is firm, grabby, and fully extracted. Saturated berry flavors are dark as night, while this concrete-tank, high-elevation Malbec tastes mostly of ripe berry fruits on a seemingly never-ending finish. Drink through 2026” ~93 Points, Wine Enthusiast.
