The Cape Blend category requires a minimum Pinotage component of 30%. In the Kadette, the Pinotage element is rounded off with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, all aged in oak. The result is an opulent red wine offering an array of red and black fruit flavors underscored by depth and complexity.

Kanonkop is a 4th generation family-owned wine estate, which has been handed down from generation to generation and is now in the hands of brothers Paul and Johann Krige.

The concept of terroir, which is widely seen as an integral part of viticulture, can be described as the influences of the soil, climate, and topography on a vine, vineyard, or region that determine the character of the wine made there.

On this unique piece of Stellenbosch terroir, no year in the vineyards is the same. The focused and site-specific approach to winemaking, which has been at the heart of the estate since the first vintage, ensures the character of each year is captured, along with its climate and ecological vagaries allowed to express themselves in the wines.

Soils, climate, and aspects combine to place a fingerprint of individuality on the ripe grapes; the winemaker’s role is to capture this expression of nature and steer it through vinification, maturation, and bottling.

Aging: 12 months in older French oak barrels

Tasting Notes: 44% Pinotage, 29% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The bright ruby color of the Kadette Cape Blend 2019 has vibrant crimson hues, with complementing aromas of raspberries, dark cherries, plums, cinnamon, and cloves. Supple, elegant tannins, and a fresh seam of acidity are beautifully balanced with a vibrant explosion of fruit on the palate. Juicy flavors of red and black fruits, and a hint of chocolate, dominate the lengthy finish.
